What interviewers mean by ownership

Ownership means treating the outcome as yours, not just your assigned tasks. In practice it shows up as noticing problems nobody owns and doing something about them, following through after launch, fixing your own mistakes before anyone asks, and thinking past the current sprint.

Leadership, in most PM interviews, means leading without reports. Few PM candidates manage people, and interviewers know that. They want evidence that you set direction, make decisions, unblock others, raise the standard of the work and help people grow, without a title that makes anyone listen.
