Why this question is harder than it looks
"What's your favorite product, and why?" sounds like a warm-up. It isn't. It is a product sense question in disguise, and many interviewers use it to see how you think when there is no prompt to lean on. You pick the product, so you have no excuse for a vague answer.
The usual weak answer is a fan review: "I love it, it's so easy to use, the design is clean." That tells the interviewer you are a happy customer. It doesn't tell them you understand why the product works, which is the actual question.
The fix is to run the Design Ladder on a product that already exists. Instead of designing something new, you explain the design someone else made, then you improve it.
