What is your favorite product, and why?
How to approach it
Pick a product you actually use and can talk about in depth, then name the specific user and job it serves before praising any feature.
How a strong answer opens
“My favorite product is the transit app I open every weekday at 7:40 to decide whether to run for the bus. I'll explain who it's built for, two choices that make it work, and one thing I'd change.”
Outline of a strong answer
Try answering out loud for a few minutes before you open this.
- Name the product and the exact situation you use it in
- Say who it is built for and the job that user hires it to do
- Pick two design choices and explain why they work for that user
- Point to one thing that would break if the team changed it
- Name one weakness and a concrete improvement you would test
- Close with how you would know the improvement helped
Where this question usually goes wrong
