How would you improve Google Maps?

How to approach it

Do not start listing features. Ask what goal matters (engagement, accuracy, new users, local business revenue) and narrow to one user group first.

How a strong answer opens

“Maps serves a lot of people, so before ideas I'd like to agree on a goal: engagement, new users, or local business revenue? If you have no preference, I'll focus on tourists in an unfamiliar city.”

Outline of a strong answer

Try answering out loud for a few minutes before you open this.

  1. Clarify the goal and any constraints, such as platform or region
  2. List user groups: commuters, tourists, delivery drivers, local businesses
  3. Pick one group, for example tourists in an unfamiliar city, and say why
  4. Map their journey and name the biggest pain points (planning a day, transit confusion, offline use)
  5. Propose three solutions and prioritize by impact and effort
  6. Define a success metric and a guardrail for the chosen solution

Where this question usually goes wrong

Firing off features for every Maps user at once, with no goal, no chosen segment and no way to say which idea matters most.
