How would you improve LinkedIn for people who are not looking for a job?

How to approach it

Set the goal first. For people not job hunting, the likely goal is regular engagement, so ask what would bring them back weekly.

How a strong answer opens

“For people who aren't job hunting, I'd guess the goal is regular engagement, so my question is what would bring them back every week. Let me split them by what they want from their careers right now.”

Outline of a strong answer

Try answering out loud for a few minutes before you open this.

  1. Confirm the goal: engagement among passive members
  2. Segment them: people learning a skill, people building a reputation, managers who hire
  3. Pick one segment and explain the reason
  4. Find pain points: noisy feed, low-value notifications, no reason to post
  5. Propose solutions tied to that segment's real goals
  6. Measure weekly active rate and meaningful actions per visit, with a spam guardrail

Where this question usually goes wrong

Suggesting job-search features for people who just said they aren't looking, or treating more notifications as the answer to low engagement.
