You're the PM for a food delivery app. Design a feature for group orders at the office.

How to approach it

Picture the organizer chasing ten colleagues for orders and money. Their pain is the starting point.

How a strong answer opens

“Let me picture the organizer chasing ten colleagues for their choices and their money. First, who pays: the company or each person? That changes the design.”

Outline of a strong answer

Try answering out loud for a few minutes before you open this.

  1. Clarify office size and who pays: company or each person
  2. Name the organizer and the participants as users
  3. Pain points: chasing choices, splitting payment, late joiners, dietary needs
  4. Ideas: shared cart link with a cutoff, per-person payment, budget caps
  5. Prioritize a shared cart with a deadline
  6. Measure group orders per week and average order size

Where this question usually goes wrong

Designing for the individual diners and ignoring the organizer, who carries the coordination work and decides whether the office uses the feature again.
