You're coming from engineering, design or consulting. What will be hardest for you as a PM?

How to approach it

Name a real gap tied to your background, show steps you are already taking, and then name the strength your background brings.

How a strong answer opens

“I'm coming from five years as an engineer, and the hardest part will be letting go of how things get built. I've already started practicing that, and my background helps in one specific way.”

Outline of a strong answer

Try answering out loud for a few minutes before you open this.

  1. State your background
  2. Name a gap, for example an engineer letting go of how something is built
  3. One step you have already taken to close it
  4. The strength your background gives you as a PM
  5. How you will lean on the team in your first months

Where this question usually goes wrong

Claiming nothing will be hard, or naming a gap without any step you are already taking to close it.
