How would you improve Uber's pickup experience at a crowded airport?

How to approach it

Name both sides of the problem: riders who cannot find their car and drivers who cannot reach the curb. Pick whose pain to solve first.

How a strong answer opens

“There are two sides to a bad airport pickup: riders who can't find their car and drivers who can't reach the curb. Can we change the airport's pickup zones, or only the rider and driver apps?”

Outline of a strong answer

Try answering out loud for a few minutes before you open this.

  1. Clarify scope: rider app, driver app or the airport itself
  2. Map the pickup: request, wait, find each other, load
  3. Pain points: confusing pickup zones, long walks, wrong car, driver circling
  4. Ideas: numbered pickup spots, queue-based matching, wayfinding, PIN matching
  5. Prioritize by impact on wait time versus build and airport-approval effort
  6. Measure time from request to pickup and cancellations at airports

Where this question usually goes wrong

Forgetting that airports control the curb, so ideas that need airport approval get proposed as if the team could ship them next sprint.
